2nd edition Oni warrior Amakusa Rin 75mm
Rika: Master, how good do my skills need to be till I can be considered as a true samurai?
Rin: The real difference between a samurai and ordinary people is neither the skill in combat, nor the discipline in life, but how you face death. Only when you can decide how to die will you have the spirit of a samurai.
Amakusa Rin is the commander of HOC (Honourable Omni Corporation)’s current CEO’s elite guard force. She is one of the few people in this giant company who is eligible for access on top-level resources, such as relic cyborg bodies. These cyborg bodies are usually equipped with powerful, old civilization technologies and only the most trustworthy personnel can be qualified to use them. As a cyborg human whose whole body is replaced by artificial parts, Rin's heart/power source is a nuclear fusion reaction battery from the relics of the old civilization. Her body can separate particles in the air to produce plasma. The combination of the two allows her to continuously inject hot plasma into her hand-held weapon, easily cutting through any armor. Rin receives the nickname of Oni Warrior, not only because the cyan flame from the plasma on the blade resembles the ghost fire in the dark, but also the legend that she came back from death in the HOC civil war.
Rin was born into a warrior family in the Nara Kingdom. To escape from a purge caused by a power struggle inside the royal family, her father took her to the new colonies. He then provided military service to HOC in exchange for the safety of his family. Although Rin’s family lost the obligation to the royal family, her father still educated her the way of samurai. Under the influence of her father, young Rin mastered the skill of Kendo (martial art of sword fighting). She believes that courage is the most important virtue, and is willing to give up anything for honor and loyalty. After becoming an adult, Rin naturally joined the military department of HOC. Her superior was Takeshi Kawasaki. After many battles, she became Takeshi's most trusty lieutenant. In the subsequent HOC Civil War, her loyalty and courage were most severely tested.
As the commander of the HOC armed forces, the power struggle between Takeshi and the CEO Lord Magnus eventually turned into a real war: Takeshi was placed under house arrest by Magnus at the HOC headquarter and was forced to resign and surrender control of the armed forces. Most of the colleagues who were on Takeshi’s side began to lose faith in him and turned to Magnus. At this crucial moment, Rin made the choice between being loyal to the company and her commander. She led an elite unit, composed of 80 soldiers, into the company headquarter and rescued Takeshi. Magnus, who fled from the headquarter, issued an order saying Takeshi and his followers were traitors to the company and that he required all HOC armed forces to shoot them on sight, unconditionally.
During the subsequent escort of Takeshi to the territory of his supporters, they were intercepted by a large number of Magnus troops. Facing an overwhelming disadvantage of 20 to 1, Rin and her soldiers launched a charge. To charge in this odd situation seemed suicidal but Magnus troops fell into chaos by the unexpected attack, providing Takeshi with an opportunity to retreat. At the end, Takeshi escaped the encirclement alone and Rin and all of her 80 soldiers were killed. In the next year of conflict, Takeshi finally dismantled Magnus's power and gained the support of the board of directors to become the new CEO of HOC.
The process of Rin’s resurrection remained a secret of the HOC. There are legends that sympathizers in the Magnus army sent the seriously injured Rin back to Takeshi’s faction after the bloody battle, and there are also suggestions that a local witch doctor saved her life by using voodoo magic. As a result, Rin, who was transformed into a full-body cyborg, returned to Takeshi and was appointed as the commander of Takeshi's private guard force. Unparalleled loyalty leads to her becoming Takeshi's most trusted ally, with the highest level of access to all military equipment of the HOC. Takeshi even lets his precious daughter, Rika, become Rin’s apprentice in learning the skills and code of a samurai.
